On April 7, 2020, Sony announced their new PS5 Controller, Dualsense. And there’s a lot to talk about!!!
There are a ton of new features so let’s jump straight right in.
First of all, the Dualsense name. Sony says ‘it ads a powerful sensation when you play such as the slow grittiness of driving a car through the mud’ (whatever that means). Hence the name, Dualsense. The DualSense wireless controller for PS5 offers immersive haptic feedback. Supposedly, the actual haptic feedback engine has been significantly improved by a lot compared to the previous-gen. However, that’s just the beginning of why this Dualsense controller is so unique.
Let’s talk about the design first.
If you take a look at the PS5 controller itself you’ll see they’ve changed the size as well as the shape. Essentially it seems to be a little bit of a sharper angle. Sony claims this is done partially to fit in a lot of the extra technologies such as the extra haptic motors while giving the users a much better feel in hand.
Besides, there are also some interesting design changes such as the unique white and black styling with a blue light bar which is now been moved from the back of the controller to around the touchpad which looks really good.
There are now adaptive triggers built-in to the l2 & r2 buttons and they’re calling these the ‘Adaptive Triggers’. Sony says the adaptive triggers, which are within the L2 and R2 buttons, allows you to “truly feel the tension of your actions, like when drawing a bow to shoot an arrow.”
This, along with the haptic feedback, is a way of trying to pull the player further into the game than ever before.
One thing the Dualsense controller is missing is the dedicated share button. So, instead of having a traditional share button that was used to take screenshots or stream your game is now replaced with a ‘Create’ button.
PS5 Controller Charging Port
The PS5 controller is the first Play Station controller to come with a USB-C port for charging. And Sony has also announced a new charging dock accessory for the PS5 controller.

Microphone, Speaker, Headset jack
The DualSense has a built-in microphone array, so you can chat with your friends without needing a headset. There’s also a dedicated mute button if you need it.
The Dualsense PS5 controller is actually pretty interesting and exciting with its new design (which I really liked) and the next-gen haptics. Personally, We’re very excited to get my hands on with the Dualsense controller and there’ll be a detailed overview of the controller once we do.
